It’s not uncommon to learn that certain businesses are reluctant to update their tried and tested methods. Which always makes me think of one of my favorite quotes:
The most dangerous phrase for a business is; ‘we’ve always done it this way.’
Because well, it is.
It’s not shocking to see businesses stuck in a digital rut. Particularly if they have been trading for many years. Time has taught us to think if it’s not broken don’t fix it, right? Eh.. Well, we’re sometimes wrong on that one.
Just because once upon a time fax machines were at the height of technological sophistication, along with the beeper and mobile phones the size of your shoe, it doesn’t mean that’s what is best for business now. Or, what’s best for your customer.
And with the wealth of tools available, you can’t afford to turn a blind eye. Not when it would be so easy for competitors to sneak in and steal your spot.
How to find best Ecommerce applications?
Finding a solution to adopt today is easier than it’s ever been. Technology is everywhere you look. It’s adopted by 64% of SMB’s, growing to an estimated 88% by 2017.
So how do you figure out which of these tools is the one for you? How do you determine where your business needs a boost? There are over 47,000 technology companies in the UK alone. It’s easy to get distracted or feel overwhelmed with the selection that’s available or to even feel that some are unnecessary.
The key is to identify what holds you up. When do you spend the most time completing a task? What is it that keeps you waiting? Where do you spend your time chasing clients or colleagues? What aspect could use some digital organizing? You need to pinpoint where you feel you don’t have the right tools at your disposal to get your work finished.
Whilst SMB’s are typically more likely to adopt a tech solution for their business, bigger well-known brands aren’t averse to adopting either. You might have heard of a company called Shopify, who are an ecommerce platform powering over 100,000 online retailers.
Having a large number of clients to deal with can mean that complex CRM pains. This is why they needed Hubspot’s help. Hubspot, a multifunctional CRM tool, enabled them to better manage their customers, organize leads and modernize their sales process. Something that they struggled to achieve previously.
Another example is Fortune Magazine. Fortune has a massive presence with a large team. And as communication is the name of their game, they sought out a solution that aided them socially; Buffer.
Buffer is a social media tool which enabled them to collaborate with their content scheduling, ensure posts were always reported and other platforms weren’t forgotten or neglected. By taking this new tech on board they are able to send updates to followers and readers every 20 minutes, without having to dedicate that time in their day or break their focus in order to send a post.
A relatable example for the majority of businesses is looking at Slack & email. Slack is a communication platform which works across all web-enabled devices. And how do you make Monday mornings more efficient? By getting rid of that cluttered inbox and replacing internal email with a transparent communication tool.
By acting fast to embrace these kinds of new applications, you can get ahead of the lumbering corporate giants that are stuck in their ways.

Here’s a quick look at some of the main reasons businesses today are accepting tech solutions.
So, how can you keep your processes on point?
1. Don’t get comfortable
This might not sound right because comfortable is meant to be good. We all like feeling comfy. And yes, it usually is. But think about when you feel comfortable; you’re usually not moving. And that means not moving forward. When you feel uncomfortable that means you’re doing something new, and that means growth for you and your business.
2. Know your customer
You need to know where they are and what they’re doing. By figuring this out you figure out how to make their buying experience easier, and this can identify where you might need help.
Is sending documents slowing down closing deals? Find a paperless solution. Do you need to strengthen the communication between your customer? Opt for a digital help desk. How about ease of sending files? Cloud storage means you no longer have to zip 20MB files & hope they email. There are hundreds of solutions for all areas of your company.
3. Always be on the look-out for solutions
Stay aware. As soon as something starts to take time out of your day, bug you, or becomes the task you start dreading the most – that means there’s room for improvement. And if it can be improved, then that means there’s probably a solution waiting for you to try out.
So don’t waste your time with systems that are time-consuming and feel counterproductive. Using software as a solution means your business is constantly innovating and streamlining its approach.
And as a report by Business Review Europe highlights how “new technology adoption is crucial to business success”. Explaining how “businesses can only progress as quickly as IT enables them to – it’s business at the speed of IT.”
